Terms and conditions

The text, photographs and design on this site are protected by copyright. Reading, linking and brief quotation with credit require no permission. Reproducing the content does.

The short version

  • Any page may be read and linked to freely.
  • A short passage may be quoted, with credit, in the ordinary way that any source is quoted.
  • All content on this site, including every photograph, is protected by copyright. Reproducing it — republishing it, reprinting it, or including it in other material — requires written permission first.
  • Permission requests go to Chris@ChrisForSquamish.ca.
  • The site provides general information about an election campaign. It is not advice, and it creates no obligation to any visitor.

Using this site

ChrisForSquamish.ca is published by Chris Pettingill in connection with a campaign for Squamish Council (the "Campaign", "we", "us"). Accessing or using the site indicates acceptance of these terms. Visitors who do not accept them should not use the site.

The site offers no accounts, no registration and no transactions, so these terms are correspondingly brief. They set out what may be done with the content published here and the limits of the Campaign's responsibility.

Copyright in the content and the photographs

All content on this site is protected by copyright under the Copyright Act (Canada) and applicable international copyright law. This includes the written text and page copy, the photographs and other images, the graphics, the layout and design, the logo and wordmark, and the source code behind the site. Copyright is held by Chris Pettingill, or by the photographers and other creators whose work appears here under licence.

The photographs are commissioned works, licensed for use by the Campaign. That licence does not extend to visitors. Photographs may not be copied from these pages, cropped or altered, incorporated into posts, flyers, presentations, newsletters or other websites, or used as input to an image generator or other machine-learning system, without prior written permission.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights already available under the Copyright Act, including fair dealing for the purposes of news reporting, criticism, review, research or private study. Media covering the election may rely on fair dealing in the ordinary way.

Use that requires no permission

  • Reading any page, on any device, as often as you like.
  • Linking to any page from any website or social media platform. No permission is required, and none will ever be required.
  • Printing or saving a copy of a page for personal, non-commercial use.
  • Quoting a short passage — ordinarily a sentence or two — provided the source is credited and the quotation is not shortened in a way that changes its meaning.

Use that requires permission

Any use beyond those listed above requires prior written permission. This includes republishing a page or a substantial part of one, using a photograph in any context, reproducing the logo or wordmark, incorporating content into printed material, and copying the site's text or design for use on another website or in another campaign.

Requests should be sent to Chris@ChrisForSquamish.ca, specifying the material to be used and where it will appear. Permission is usually granted, and requests are answered promptly during the campaign period. Automated or bulk copying — including scraping the site, mirroring it, and collecting its content to train a machine-learning model — is not permitted.

Acceptable use

This site may not be used for any unlawful purpose, to impersonate the Campaign or its candidate, or to misrepresent the content published here. Visitors must not attempt to interfere with the site or the servers on which it runs, obtain access to areas of it that are not public, or place an unreasonable load on it.

Accuracy and scope of the information

Content on this site is provided for general information about a municipal election campaign. It is prepared in good faith, but it does not constitute legal, financial, professional or electoral advice, and it should not be relied on in place of official sources.

For all matters relating to voting — dates, locations, hours, eligibility and identification requirements — the authoritative sources are the District of Squamish and Elections BC. Where this site and an official source differ, the official source governs.

Positions and priorities described on this site reflect the candidate's views at the time of publication, based on the best information available at that time. The candidate maintains an open mind and will adjust their perspective as warranted by new information. No page on this site creates a legal obligation to any visitor.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to third-party websites, including District of Squamish and provincial government pages. Those sites are not under the Campaign's control. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the site it points to, and no responsibility is accepted for that site's content or accuracy. Once a link is followed, the visitor is on a third party's website, governed by that party's terms and privacy policy.

No warranty, and limits on liability

This site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. No warranty is given that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components, or that its content is complete or current.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Campaign is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on its content. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited; where that is the case, this section applies only to the extent the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Privacy

Information collected by this site is described in the privacy policy. The site has no accounts, no forms and no advertising trackers.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the site changes. The version published on this page is the version in effect, and the date below is updated with it. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
