Privacy policy
This site asks visitors for nothing, and it makes no attempt to work out who they are.
The short version
- There are no accounts and no logins.
- There are no donation forms, because the campaign is not taking donations.
- There are no advertising trackers, social media pixels or third-party cookies.
- Basic technical records of visits are kept to confirm that the site works and to gauge how many people read it. No attempt is made to link them to an individual.
- Nothing collected here is sold, rented or traded. Ever.
What is not collected
This site is published by Chris Pettingill in connection with a campaign for Squamish Council (the "Campaign", "we", "us"). It is a plain campaign website: no user accounts, no login, no comment section, no survey, and no payment or donation processing. There is nowhere on this site to enter a name, an address or an email address, so none of that is collected.
The site uses no advertising networks, retargeting pixels, social media tracking tags, session recording, heat maps, or any service that builds a profile of a visitor across other websites. Fonts and images are served from the site itself, so simply reading a page here does not disclose the visit to a third-party font or media host.
What is collected automatically
Like every website, this one is delivered by a hosting provider, and that provider records technical information about each request so the site can be served, kept secure, and kept working. The provider's built-in audience and performance measurement is also used. Together, those records can include:
- your IP address;
- the approximate location that IP address suggests — generally country or region, not a street;
- your browser and device type, operating system and screen size;
- which pages you opened, when, and which page or search result sent you here;
- how quickly pages loaded and rendered on your device, and any errors the site hit.
An IP address can, in some circumstances, be traced back to a person, so it is treated here as personal information. It is collected as part of ordinary web serving and security logging. No attempt is made to look up who is behind an IP address, these records are not connected to any individual, and the Campaign holds no list of supporters or contacts to connect them to.
What is actually reviewed is the summary: how many people read a page, which pages get read, and whether the site is fast and error-free. Those summaries contain no names and no contact details.
Cookies and browser storage
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. The audience measurement used here is cookieless.
There is one small piece of browser storage: if you switch the site between light and dark
using the control in the header, that choice is saved in your own browser under the name theme. It stays on your device, it is
never transmitted to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Email correspondence
The site lists an email address. Writing to it gives us your email address and whatever you choose to tell us, held in an ordinary email account. It is used to reply and to follow up on the matter you raised. Your message will not be passed to anyone else without your consent, unless disclosure is required by law.
If you get in touch offering to help, your address may be kept in a small volunteer contact group, so that people can be told what is happening and when a hand is needed. That group is put together and managed by hand. There is no sign-up form on this site, and no one is added to anything by reading a page or by writing about something else. On request, your address will be removed from that group, or the correspondence deleted altogether.
Links to other sites
Some pages contain links to other websites. Once such a link is followed, the visitor is on a third party's website, governed by that party's privacy policy rather than this one.
